The main attractions of Kanha are Bison, Tiger, Gaur, Chital, barking dear, Barasingha, Black bug, Black deer, Nilgai, Chousingha, Sloth bear, Mouse deer, Porcupine, Jackal fox, Jungle cat, Peafowl, Mython, Monkey, Hare, Tiger, Mongoose, Leopard and many others. Here you can enjoy spotting of birds of different species like Teals, Storks, Egrets, Pond herons, Peacock, Jungle fowl, Pea fowl, Patridges, Spur fowl, Rock pigeons, Green pigeons, Papihas, Cuckoos, Bee-eater, Rollers, Hoopoes, Warblers, Drongos, Woodpeckers, Kingfishers, Orioles, Finches, Fly catchers and Owl. If we talk about one animal species for which Kanha is well known, then it is Barasingha or the Swamp Deer. Here you will get the opportunity to spot some unique species of Barasingha. Here you will find some hard ground variety of Barasingha populating in the large open tract of grass amidst the dense forest of bamboo and teak. Though the species of barasingha was about extinction about twenty years ago but the desperate measures of the forest department has saved the species of Barasingha and again you can feel that the Kanha bugles by the rutting calls of Barasingha. Especially during the winter season, the open meadows in kanha usually gets teeming with Barasinghas and you can spot plenty of Tigers around the fringes of park.You will enjoy to watch the activities of plenty of tigers in their natural habitat. The stringent program of conservation helped the overall protection of kanha’s flora and fauna. In kanha National Park, there is a beautiful museum which depicts the activities of the tribal culture and the wild life in the park. This museum remains closed on every Wednesday. This land is famous as an inspirational land for Rudyard Kipling for his famous and outstanding creation- ‘The Jungle Book’. This famous national park was created on 1st June 1955 and in 1973, it was declared as Kanha Tiger Reserve. Presently it stretches over the two districts of Madhya Pradesh, Mandla and Balaghat and has occupied an area of about 940 km2. The area of Kanha is divided into two important sanctuaries, Banjar and Hallon. It is a beautiful national park nestled in the Maikal Range of Satpura. This is not only the biggest reserves of state but it is one of the biggest reserves of India. People visit this national park with the feeling as the dwell of the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger. The lovely land of Kanha is encircled by mesmerizing greenery, stunning streams and beautiful meadows. It is a unique place for wild life lovers as well as nature lovers. The most interesting feature of this region is its topography. The horseshoe shape of the valley is most interesting and attractive. The entire area of the park is surrounded beautifully by the spurs of the Mekal. Along the edges, the steep rocky escarpmentsoffer the breathtaking view of the valley.
